Mobile device setup
(How) Do I have to configure my mobile device to receive warning and information messages?
To receive messages via the “LU-Alert” mobile application, you need to download the application from your mobile device operator’s Store (Apple App Store or Google Play Store) and carry out the configurations requested during the installation process.
To receive messages via location-based SMS (LB-SMS), your mobile device does not need any specific configuration.
Only certain mobile device models are able to receive messages transmitted via Cell Broadcast (CB). To receive such messages, you may need to update your mobile device’s operating system (Android and iOS). You can check this in the settings of your mobile device. See answer to the question “On which types of mobile devices can warning and information messages via Cell Broadcast (CB) be received?”.
What types of mobile devices can Cell Broadcast (CB) warning and information messages be received on?
Warning and information messages sent via Cell Broadcast (CB) can be received on the following mobile devices:
- Apple devices running iOS 17.5 or later and with the June 2024 system update;
- Android devices that were released with Android 11 or later and with the August 1, 2024 system update.
Please also consider the specific settings of your mobile device so it can receive Cell Broadcast (CB) messages.
Some smart mobile devices (watch, coffee machine, refrigerator, car, etc.) are likely to receive messages via Cell Broadcast (CB).
Do I receive warning and information messages when my mobile device is in silent mode?
Messages sent via Cell Broadcast (CB) take the form of priority notifications that appear on the screen of your mobile device even if it is in silent mode, do not disturb or locked. The message may be accompanied by an audible alert as well as a vibration to emphasize its urgency.
Messages sent via location-based SMS (LB-SMS) take the form of regular SMS notifications. If your device is in silent mode, do not disturb or locked, the display of the SMS on the screen depends on your mobile device’s notification settings. This also applies to messages sent via the “LU-Alert” mobile application.
Why didn’t I receive a notification on the “LU-Alert” mobile application?
If you have not received a notification on the “LU-Alert” mobile application, check in the settings of your mobile device whether notifications are enabled for the “LU-Alert” mobile application. Please also check if the category and level of the concerned alert are active. If this is the case, go through the following steps:
For mobile devices operated by Android:
- Go to the settings;
- Search for the word “sleep” or “standby”;
- Select “Deep sleep applications”;
- Select “Never sleep applications”;
- Select “LU-Alert” from the list and click “Add”.
For mobile devices operated by Apple:
- Go to the settings;
- Search for “General”;
- Search for “Background refresh” and check if this feature is enabled;
- Search for the mobile application and enable this feature if it is disabled.
Please also check in the settings of your mobile device whether you have allowed the “LU-Alert” mobile application to use your geolocation and whether you, or one of your places of interest, were in the targeted area when the alert or information was triggered.
If you have not found the answer to your question among the questions above, please consult the other sections of “All about LU-Alert”. If you do not find the answer to your question there either, you can contact us directly using the contact form by clicking on the link below.
